Starting University is a wonderful and exciting experience but it can also be quite tricky trying to navigate a new place, new people and new jargon. We know that this can be a bit overwhelming or nerve-racking so with that in mind, the Faculty of Science invite you to join us for the Science Transition Workshop.
Spend a day with us where we'll give you the ins-and-outs of starting and transitioning to University life. You'll get top tips from older students who have been exactly where you are now, hear more from the Schools you'll be studying with and how to get help as well as important information from the Faculty, ICT and the library about how to navigate University systems and processes. We'll also throw in some fun activities and opportunities to meet your peers and start building your networks!
We can't wait to meet you!
Please note: In the session selection, please select the subject area of interest or where you are thinking of majoring in. Select Life and Environmental Sciences if you are interested in animal science, agriculture or biology

A unique, must-do experience this Welcome Week is Listening to Earth, a sensory sound and video installation that invites audiences to listen and connect to their environment through sound. Free and open to the public from Tuesday 13th February - Sunday 18th February, during museum opening hours.
Created by sound artist Diana Chester, composer Damien Ricketson and lighting/visual artist Fausto Brusamolino, Listening to Earth explores the vibrational interplay between the sea and the land. The Sustainability Team invites you to immerse yourself in Listening to Earth this Welcome Week at Chau Chak Wing Museum. Escape the crowds and connect with the environment, through a unique sensory experience intended to facilitate audiences hearing the earth in ways that sit beyond their usual modes of perception. The work engages with environmental concerns by positioning the earth as a store of vibrational memory and stories that, via an experience of heightened attentiveness, we may learn to better understand what it has to say. The installation will be open from Tuesday 13th February - Sunday 18th February during museum opening hours, participants are encouraged to attend at any time, for as long as they like.

In NSW, international students and part-time students are excluded from the transport concession scheme. These students are forced to pay full fair for their transport – double what domestic, full-time students pay.
Part-time students and international students have been fighting for access to the transport concession scheme for decades. Now, with rising rents and outrageous rates of student poverty, students need concessions now more than ever. Sign our petition to demand fairness for all students.

One of the most challenging aspects of transitioning to university is getting to know individuals when a lecture can have hundreds of people. However, meeting and making friends is a critical part of university life, so students are able to develop a support network that can continue throughout their degree to support their mental and academic well-being. Speed networking is a fun, gamified way to help new students get to know each other. This event will bring first-year students together within the peer mentoring program across all majors to allow them to interact with people outside their major and mentor group.

This event is open to all students across the University of Sydney with an interest in learning more and connecting with the Engineering Industries.
Are you ready to rev up your professional network? Join us for an electrifying evening of Speed Networking for students interested in Engineering. You'll have the chance to spark meaningful connections with fellow students in a fast-paced and engaging atmosphere. Free Pizzas, snacks and drinks are provided!
Don't miss this chance to turbocharge your professional network and forge valuable connections within the Engineering professions. We look forward to seeing you at the Speed Networking Event!
Space is limited, so RSVP early to secure your spot!
Event Overview:
This is not your average networking event. Modelled after the popular concept of speed dating, this event promises an innovative and efficient way to expand your network.
How It Works:
Upon arrival, participants will be greeted and provided with a name tag. The evening will kick off with a brief orientation, where you'll learn the rules and prepare for the main event.
Similar to speed dating, attendees will be seated across from each other in pairs. A timer will ring, signalling the start of each networking round. You'll have a set amount of time to introduce yourself, exchange contact information, and discuss your professional interests and goals.
When the time is up, the timer will ring again, and it's time to rotate to the next partner. Don't worry; we'll keep the rotations organised to ensure you can meet as many colleagues as possible.
Networking Tips:
Be prepared with a concise introduction that highlights your expertise and interests.
Ask open-ended questions to foster meaningful conversations.
Actively listen and engage with your partners.
Exchange contact information and follow up with your new connections after the event.
Wrap-Up:
After the final rotation, stick around for some informal networking over refreshments. This is your opportunity to continue conversations, exchange ideas, and solidify the connections you've made throughout the evening.

PubTalks: The Biomedical Science and Engineering Social Seminar Series is a new initiative that provides HDR students and ECRs with opportunities to present on their work and learn about research within specific themes in a low-pressure environment.
This series is designed to help presenters and audience members develop their ability to engage scientifically with a diverse set of colleagues across disciplines.
This program aims to foster more dialogue between academics across the School of Medical Sciences (SOMS) and the School of Biomedical Engineering (BME); however, we happily welcome attendance from all interested parties across the University.
