The theme for this year’s Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is “ECSTATICA: an act of euphoric rebellion, a collision of glamour, grit, and raw joy that burns brighter when we stand together”. To celebrate, the University of Sydney Library will be holding a zine-making workshop featuring LGBTQIA+ materials from Rare Books and Special Collections.
Zines (short for magazine or fanzine) are small DIY publications comprising original or appropriated texts and images. Historically, countercultures and marginalised communities have used this format to bypass the traditional publishing industry and share information and experiences directly with others. In this workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the Library’s queer archives and socialise with your fellow students while creating a zine of your very own. No experience is required, and all creative materials will be provided.

Whether you're coming to university straight from high school, previous studies, or the workplace - starting university is a big step, and having someone to guide you through those early weeks can make all the difference 🌟
What's the FASS Peer Mentoring Program?
The program will connect with a Peer Mentor in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and has been designed for you to:
Hear from a senior student (your Peer Mentor) who's been where you are
Discover tips to make the most of your time at university
Find your community and make friendships that may last a lifetime!
This is a 4-week program from Week 1 to 4 of Semester 1, starting with the Launch. After the Launch, you'll have ongoing chances to catch up with your Peer Mentor and group of peers.
Launch of the FASS Peer Mentoring Program!🎉
To kickstart the program, a Launch will be held on Wednesday 25 February at MacLaurin Hall, Quadrangle. 11:00am to 1:00pm (Undergraduate) and 3:00pm to 5:00pm (Postgraduate).
Come along to...
🎯 Meet Peer Mentors and fellow new students
🔍 Explore how you can make the most of the mentoring experience
🎲 Connect over ice-breaker activities, games and casual chats
🍕 Enjoy free food and collect prizes
What if I can't attend the Launch, or my Peer Mentor can't?
If you’re unable to attend the Launch, you can still participate in the Peer Mentoring Program to be connected with a Peer Mentor. Simply go ahead to register via the form on this page, and select 'No' when asked about your Launch attendance.
Sometimes Peer Mentors also aren’t able to attend the Launch due to classes or work, but this won’t affect your experience in the program. You’ll still be matched with a Mentor and have the chance to meet during Weeks 1 to 4. We’ll provide details on connecting with your Mentor and more activities so you don’t miss out!
The Launch is a great chance to meet other students and learn more about the program, so we encourage you to come along even if your Mentor can’t be there!

Looking to discover cycleways to and from campus? Join fellow students on this free e-bike tour, exploring local cycleways, bike paths and quieter streets while getting to know the City of Sydney. Expert guides from Pedal Set Go will share bike safety tips and simple route-planning advice to help you build an enjoyable, low-carbon commute.
Free lunch is provided on return to campus.
We recommend this tour for students who are comfortable riding a bike. It isn’t suitable for first-time riders. It’s fine to be a little rusty - we’ll talk you through the basics, and if you arrive early you’re welcome to take a short practice ride before we depart. Please consider your current bike skill level before booking, as this is a popular event.
The tour will depart and return to the grassed area next to the Michael Spence Building (F23). The tour will take 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Hosted by Sustainability at Sydney and the City of Sydney Council.
