Mittigar means friend in Dharug, the language of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation — the traditional custodians of the land where our university stands. On your university journey, friendships and social connections can make all the difference. Together, you’ll study, grow, and one day, walk across the graduation stage side by side.

  • Key differences between your home country’s system and Australia’s and how it fits into the system
  • What bulk-billing means and how to access it
  • Finding a GP and how to access medical help on campus
  • How to use your Bupa OSHC effectively

Do you know that international students are disproportionately targeted by rental scams and job exploitation in Australia? According to the Australian Government’s Study Australia website, scams and unfair work conditions are among the top risks faced by international students. Knowing your rights isn’t just helpful — it’s essential for staying safe and confident throughout your time here.

 

In this workshop, we will be discussing:

  • Tenancy rights and common rental issues, including how to spot and avoid rental scams
  • Awareness of modern slavery, including exploitation in casual or underpaid work

International Student Welcome Day

 

As an international student, International Student Welcome Day is your official welcome to the University of Sydney Community. You will experience a traditional Aboriginal dance performance and Welcome to Country. An information session will help you transition to University life with important information on support services and tips to help look after your health and wellbeing in your new home, Australia.

 

What your day will look like?

  • 9:00am-9:30am Line up at front of the Great Hall
  • 9:30am Door opens
  • 9:55am Door closes
  • 10:00am Formal proceeding starts. You'll hear information on support, student organisations, health and safety services, campus life and advice from current students.
  • 11:30am Social activities and info booths at the Quadrangle
  • 12:30pm Walk over to Sydney Uni Sport (SUS) for lunch and more activities
