Essay Writing – Getting Ready for Uni Series

Get started with essay writing in this introductory workshop. Writing essays at university can feel like a big step up from high school, but this session will help you understand the basics. We’ll cover essay structure conventions and ways to organise your ideas, and build clear, logical arguments. This workshop is perfect if you’re new to university writing or just looking for a refresher.

E-Waste Drop In

Got old tech gathering dust? Bring your old phones, laptops, chargers and small electronics to the E-Waste Drop-In and recycle them the right way. All e-waste collected will go to specialist recyclers who recover valuable materials like gold, copper and rare earth metals – materials that would otherwise be lost in landfill.

Join the growing USYD sustainability community who recycled e-waste 60.77 tonnes correctly in 2024. By recycling  e-waste your supporting a healthier planet and actively contributing to the University’s goal of zero waste to landfill by 2030.

Waste experts will be there to answer all your recycling questions, including the e-waste recycler Zolo, and there will be free climate friendly snacks to enjoy while you recycle.

Drop by the Law Lawns, Eastern Avenue, Camperdown Campus.

If recycling personal electronic devices, please ensure that all personal data has been wiped. 

What can be recycled on the day:

  • computers, laptops, tablets 

  • mobile phones, chargers

  • cables and power cords

  • keyboards, mice, and computer accessories

  • printers, scanners, and fax machines

  • monitors and displays

  • hard drives and storage devices

  • cameras, video recorders, and projectors

  • game consoles and gaming accessories

  • household electronics like DVD players and radios

  • small kitchen appliances like kettles, toasters and blenders (no large whitegoods)

What can't be recycled

  • large household appliances like fridges, washing machines and microwaves

  • batteries (these must go to dedicated battery recycling points)

  • light bulbs and fluorescent tubes

  • hazardous waste like paint and chemicals

  • soft plastics

  • general rubbish (use red landfill bins)

  • paper, cardboard, glass, and regular recyclables (use yellow or blue bins)

Join us for this action-packed day to introduce you to Science at Sydney.

Starting with our Faculty Welcome Event, you'll hear from Faculty staff who will share important information about your studies, current students who will share their unfiltered experience of what it's really like to study here and from our student societies who will show you how to really get involved in student life. 

Following this, get to know your peers during our lunch and ice-breaker session with our senior Science Student Mentors.

End the day with us STEM-tastic Fest. Imagine this: cool tunes in the background, taking photos with your new friends in our photobooth, take part in games and activities to win prizes and meet and join our science student societies. We'll also have Faculty and School representatives to ask any questions you have before starting University!

Guided Cycle Tour

🚴‍♀️ Free E-Bike Tour: Ride, Learn, Lunch!

Want to get confident cycling around Sydney? Join this free one-hour guided e-bike tour, kicking off from the Michael Spence Building (F23) on Eastern Avenue.

Led by two experienced instructors, you’ll learn basic bike skills and road rules while exploring routes through campus and surrounding suburbs. You'll ride on cycle paths,  streets, and learn how to connect to Uni by bike.

Perfect for riders who can already cycle but want to build confidence navigating the city.

What’s included:
✔️ E-bike and helmet
✔️ Expert guidance
✔️ A tasty lunch at the end!

This tour is generously provided by City of Sydney Council’s cycling program. Please note: there is some risk involved with on-road cycling. Make sure this tour suits your ability and comfort level. City of Sydney offer other programs for people who would like to learn to ride their bike or for riders who haven't ridden in a while.
