They were once also in your situation and can provide advice on the best ways to get started at the uni.   The Getting Started Q & A sessions are your chance to join an online meeting and ask any questions that can help you to plan your journey to Sydney and your time for the first few weeks of the semester

The University of Sydney is hosting a Peer Mentor Community Symposium to prepare you for your exciting role as a peer mentor in your Faculty or School Peer Mentoring program. The program has been designed with students to ensure that it includes key information and learnings that you can bring forward and apply to your mentee group such as how to refer to student services, how to set boundaries and what activities can you do with your groups to keep them engaged. You will also have the opportunity to meet students from different areas of the university and share your experiences. The semester the Symposium will be delivered in-person only.

You will experience a traditional Aboriginal dance performance and Welcome to Country before a  special welcome from our University Executive.  An information session will help you transition to University life with important information on support services and tips to help look after your health and wellbeing in your new home, Australia. Refreshments will then be provided, and you’ll then have the opportunity to network and meet your new peers while you explore information booths and get your questions answered. The day will end on a high with Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness (SUSF) where they’ll host all students to a FREE BBQ late lunch and provide the ultimate taste of what they have to offer, from their gym to their sport clubs.

These maths workshops provide an opportunity: for you to both develop and master both basic and higher intermediate level mathematics and Excel to get an edge in subjects such as accounting, finance and statistics to meet new people in your course to meet with an experienced mathematics tutor who has excelled at the units they have undertaken and completely understand the first year experience to have access to additional practice materials and resources Maths in Business has its own Canvas site that you have been enrolled into. You will find the Maths quizzes, materials and help sheets in the Maths in Business Canvas site. --- Register for PASS The Business School's Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) are free of charge, run weekly and are supplementary to tutorials and lectures. They provide you with access to the experience of a Peer Facilitator, who has previously been successful in the unit of study, additional resources, practice in exam style questions and the opportunity to meet like-minded students!  Regular participation is likely to improve your academic performance. So it's not surprising that students who regularly attended PASS in our school over the last five years averaged higher marks than students who didn't attend.  All sessions commence in week 2.

Connecting Women in STEM Research – Panel Q&A and Networking Event Are you a student interested in pursuing a postgraduate research degree in STEM, or a postgraduate student who wants to find out more about careers in academia? Come along to our panel Q&A discussion with 5 early- and mid-career academics in STEM at the University of Sydney, followed by a catered informal networking session, at 5-7pm on Thursday 5th September, at Messel Lecture Theatre, Nanoscience Hub, University of Sydney. Meet our panelists: Dr Theresa Fruth is an experimental astroparticle physicist. Her research brings her deep underground into old gold mines to look for the elusive dark matter. She joined the School of Physics as a lecturer in 2022. Dr. Aeryne Lee is a postdoctoral engineer whose research involves developing the next generation of heart valve replacements in hopes to create a solution that improves the quality of life of heart valve disease patients. Dr Tess Reynolds is the Deputy Director of the Image X Institute, Cancer Institute and Robinson Fellow at the University of Sydney, dedicated to delivering imaging innovation and 3D-printed solutions to improve surgical outcomes. Dr Tonima Ali is a Biomedical Engineer and Medical Physicist working on Computational Neuroimaging using MRI. Dr. Sirisha Tadimalla is a Cancer Institute NSW Early Career Fellow at the Institute of Medical Physics. She is an MRI physicist with expertise in developing MRI applications to improve radiation therapy outcomes for various cancers. All undergraduate and postgraduate students welcome! Come spend an afternoon doing some incredible Indigenous Painting with Koori Kinnections and savour a delicious feed from Parliament on King.   This is an afternoon opportunity to meet North Queensland based grassroots organisation Girringun Aboriginal Corporation and get to know more about their involvement with Service Learning in Indigenous Communities (SLIC). SLIC is an Industry and Community Project focused on working with different First Nations communities and embedding Aboriginal world views beyond the boundaries of the University campus.   SLIC has been working with Girringun this year on issues like Queensland's Path to Treaty, Biodiversity and Native Plant Nursery, Ranger Program, and Traditional Use of Marine Agreement to name a few. Being Carbon Literate means having “an awareness of the carbon dioxide costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis” (Carbon Literacy Project, 2023). Carbon Literacy Training (CLT) at the University of Sydney offers staff and students the chance to develop fundamental awareness of climate change, offering a starting point for making real change in the way we tackle the climate crisis. Delivered across a full-day session, this short course will be offered monthly between August - December, with alternating sessions available either in-person at Camperdown Campus or online via Zoom.  This opportunity is open to all current students and staff at the University of Sydney. Spaces are limited, so register now.   Deadline to register is 2 weeks prior to each session. If the session is full, you will be placed on a waitlist. Should a spot become available, you will be informed via email. Why complete the course? The course is accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project, an award-winning charitable organisation, recognised by the UN at COP21, in Paris, as one of 100 worldwide Transformative Action Programs. Develop a fundamental awareness of climate change and take meaningful steps towards reducing your carbon footprint.  Receive a verified digital credential upon completion. Improve employability and develop in-demand green skills and knowledge. Future student leadership opportunities. What to expect  2 hours of self-study on Canvas.  6 hours of live training, to be delivered across a full-day session An assessment & pledge, due one week after the completion of the final live session.  Total time commitment of approximately 10 hours.  Training Schedule *Please note*: You must attend the whole day session, or we cannot submit your assessment to CLP.
