Explore your new home with our fun sightseeing tours at USU Day Trips! They're the perfect chance to learn more about the city and make new friends along the way. 

All USU Day Trips are happening at the same time on Saturday, 14 February, so please only register for one of the following: 

🐨 Taronga Zoo  
Get up close and personal with Australia’s unique wildlife at Taronga Zoo. Meet koalas, kangaroos, and echidnas while enjoying stunning views of Sydney Harbour. Taronga Zoo is the ultimate blend of adventure and education, offering the chance to learn about conservation efforts and see animals from around the world.

USU Welcome to Sydney Party 2026

We’re kicking off semester with a massive party at Manning Bar for all USYD students! Come along to make new friends and enjoy free food, drink specials, great music and more.

This year’s theme highlights a unique part of Australian music culture: Hardstyle.
On top of that, we’ll be playing a mix of EDM, R&B, and international pop, so there’s something for everyone.

Dress code: Black or White (optional, but encouraged!)

Manning Bar is strictly 18+.
Physical ID
is required at entry (no photos or printouts). Only Passports or Australian driver’s licences will be accepted.

The USU practices the responsible service of alcohol and encourages the responsible consumption of alcohol.

Weaving and Beading Workshop

Learn to create your own art pieces with other first year students!

Join us for a relaxed weaving and beading workshop led by an experienced facilitator, where you’ll learn the basics of these art forms and create your own piece to take home. This hands-on session offers a welcoming introduction to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and traditions, while giving you the chance to unwind, get creative and meet other students.

No prior experience is needed. Just bring yourself and enjoy a supportive, laid-back space to learn and connect.

Welcome Ceremony

 

Welcome to the University of Sydney.

The Welcome Ceremony is the University’s official Welcome for all students. 

Held in the prestigious Great Hall, it will feature a Smoking Ceremony, Welcome to Country and official Welcome from the Vice Chancellor. The commencement address will be provided by distinguished alumnus and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Strategy and Services), Professor Reuben Bolt.   You will also hear from your student leaders and presidents of student organisations.  

Come along for Welcome Breakfast in front of the Great Hall from 8:30.

 

Please note that Great Hall capacity is limited - we encourage you to arrive early to get a seat. If you are unable to be seated inside the Great Hall, we invite you to join us at the viewing stage set up outside the Hall on the Front Lawns, where the event will be livestreamed. This event will be recorded and/or photographed.

Welcome Fair 2026 - SUPRA

Missed Welcome Week? Arrived late to campus? We’ve got you covered.
Welcome Fair 2026 is a one-stop Late Welcome Fair, hosted by the Sydney University Postgraduate Representative Association (SUPRA) , with the Sydney University Students’ Representative Council (SRC) joining, and open to all undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Explore the Library's technology spaces - ThinkSpace at SciTech Library and CreateSpace at Susan Wakil Health Building Library. These spaces offer a range of creative technologies. Equipment includes 3D printers, 3D Scanner, Virtual Reality, Recording Studios, Vinyl Cutter, Soldering Station and many more, all available for students to book and use at no cost. The Library's Peer Learning Advisors (PLAs) are available on-site with any queries about the technologies and navigating uni life. From 4–8 pm, Hermann’s Bar, the Courtyard, and the International Student Lounge will come alive with color, culture, and community as students and alumni come together to welcome the new year.
