Introduction to Surgical Suturing (Hands-On)

Suturing is the use of a needle and thread to hold two edges of a wound together. It is a fundamental skill in surgery as it allows surgical wounds to feel faster and with less risk of infection. It’s a great skill to have, whether you are pursuing a career in healthcare or are keen to know how to stitch someone up!

The Sydney University Surgical Society (SUSS) is excited to hold an ‘Introduction to Surgical Suturing’ workshop open to all USYD students. The workshop is being run by the Institute of Academic Surgery (IAS), a partnership between the University of Sydney and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital that aims to encourage students and hospital staff to further their surgical skills and education.

The workshop is all about hands-on experience. All attendees will be allocated a fake skin pad and surgery-quality sutures to practise simple suturing techniques. The workshop will be taught by experienced junior doctors and/or senior medical students. No experience is required - it’s all about trying something new in a friendly environment.

Spots are limited, so register ASAP!

Please note that times may be subject to change as we are dependent on when we fit into junior doctors’ busy schedules.
