How to...stay safe and avoid scams: Knowing your rights
Do you know that international students are disproportionately targeted by rental scams and job exploitation in Australia? According to the Australian Government’s Study Australia website, scams and unfair work conditions are among the top risks faced by international students. Knowing your rights isn’t just helpful — it’s essential for staying safe and confident throughout your time here.
In this workshop, we will be discussing:
- Tenancy rights and common rental issues, including how to spot and avoid rental scams
- Awareness of modern slavery, including exploitation in casual or underpaid work
- Practical protections, reporting options, and where to get support
This welcoming and interactive series is led by the Peer Support Advisors, who are experienced current students, but will also feature expert guests. Each workshop is a chance for you to find the answers to your questions and connect with fellow international students while enjoying a free afternoon tea.
