In an era of increased polarisation and misinformation, scholars must find accessible and engaging ways to share their research with the public.
To support this process, the Queer Media Lab and The Conservatory will be hosting a a salon style research showcase on Wednesday, June 11th, from 4:30-6:30pm at the Old School Building. Here an interdisciplinary cohort of post-graduate students will be invited to present their research through creative performance.
The aim of the event is to create a fun and supportive atmosphere for students to practice their research communication skills, seek feedback and connect with their peers.
Interested in presenting?
From puppetry to slam poetry, presenters may choose any method of creative performance to speak on their work. You could create an animated video, perform an original song, tell a story, or wow audiences with interpretive dance.
Anything goes, so long as your performance is low risk, under 4 minutes in length, and aligns with the Student Charter.
If you are new to creative research performance but want to give it a shot, you can always try the Critical Karaoke format. This is where you pick a pop song then give a talk on your research as the song plays in the background (connecting your research to the song wherever possible).
The event will begin with 1hr of presentations followed by 30min questions and individualised feedback from our panel of esteemed judges. After which, we will come together for celebratory refreshments, awards, and prizes!
As a presenter, you will also be invited to a rehearsal, Wednesday, June 4th, from 4:30-6pm at the Old School Building. This session will give you a chance to practice and workshop your presentation with others.
